We absolutely should watch it. Its a perfect encapsulation of the Dunning School/Lost cause narrative that sadly too many still buy into. On the more positive, we should watch it to honor Hattie McDaniel, who won an Oscar for it but was not allowed into the theater where it was premiered. We should watch it because it gives us a window into times we should never return to. Also, it has some great lines, a fascinating production history, not too bad of a story, so yeah it should be watched.

I'm glad the only context in which I've heard about freaks is as an important historical film with portreyal of different disabled people and in-time depiction of sideshows. interestingly, you can see now that people treat disabilities different and are much nicer towards others. The situation isn't perfect, but it's better.

I read the book, and I thought it was amazing I didn't even once get the "and everyone clapped feeling" from it. Honestly very jarring seeing this video and the comments. I thought the ending was beautiful maybe I just had a distorted view, but I don't think so. my opinion was raw not a copy and paste from what someone else had to say about the book. Do I take everything in it as gospel obviously not, but I do agree with the fundamental philosophy of the book. Seeing the movie scenes feels nothing like what the book is. Charaters feel small and basic when in the book they are nothing but. edit finished the video I did read it when I was 17 lol. loved this video btw super well made.

Video Game movies are sort of the major in thing right now, so don’t discard your hopes for a Carpenter directed Dead Space, especially considering the popularity of the recent remake. It could totally still happen, and since he’s already down for the project it’s kind of a no brainer
